The Shins

Last week was a big blur. On Tuesday, Sam decided to hold a bachelor party and needless to say, Bacardi Rum is no longer a friend of mine.

After waking up the next morning and feeling like death, I eventually got it together and headed to Brooklyn to see the Shins play at McCarren Pool, on Wednesday.

It’s a huge public pool that has been closed down for years, but a great venue to see a show, I would highly recommend it.

The performance was great, I would definitely go see them again when they tour for their new album in 2007. And for those who aren’t fans, they closed with New Slang and Caring is Creepy, the two songs from the Garden State soundtrack.

AmsterJam

This past weekend I had a chance to see AmsterJam out on Randall’s Island, the bands included Tego Calderon, Yerba Buena, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Foo Fighters and Tom Petty.

The show was outstanding and depending on the lineup next year I would highly recommend attending.

Busta was my surprise performer, he can really put on a show. He even went old school and sang a little bit of Scenario by A Tribe Called Quest. Then Busta got arrested in NYC later that night.

LL Cool J, great to hear Going Back to Cali and Around the Way Girl.

Foo Fighters, may have been my favorite, to hear My Hero and Everlong, the two songs I wanted to hear was good enough for me.

Tom Petty, he still has gas left in the tank, but he was pretty high when he was performing.

And the concerts continue, tonight it’s the Shins.

Gnarls Barkley

I had a chance to see them last night at Central Park Summer Stage. It was a really good show, they put on a solid performance and they sounded pretty good live.

Summerstage has to get a better system though of serving beer, I waited on line for 30 minutes to get beer, not good. Also, when the show concluded, it seemed as if the venue pushed everyone out the same exit, not real smart.

Now I think Gnarls is a pretty cool band, but they got a whole lot cooler when I saw some of their backstage requests. They’re currently posted on one of my favorite sites, the smoking gun. Some of the more notable items included Magnum condoms, Swisher Sweets blunts, and bottles of Hennessy and Grey Goose.

I guess that’s the way you party when you’re on the road. For the full story, log onto http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0816062gnarls1.html

Cell Phone Ear Pieces

Now I’m all for technology and if ear pieces for cell phones keep people from talking while they’re driving, I’m all for it.

However, if you continue to wear the earpiece while you’re at dinner or having drinks later into the evening, well then you’re just an idiot.

Just some food for thought
